When I write I listen to music and the type of music that's playing also meets the emotion I'm trying to bring to life in my words, Music is an emotional journey for me. I believe you not only hear music but you deeply feel it. Music can instantly uplift you, calm you, make you tense or cause you to become extremely sad.
In a movie you can always tell what's about to happen by the music that's played.
Examples: In Jaws you knew that the shark was coming when you heard dunt dun dunt dun.
In a love scene, romantic music will play.
In a horror or suspense you know something is going to happen when you here the tense music.
Hearing a certain song can trigger memories both good and bad. Music can also heal a damaged soul by letting you feel deeply, cry or get mad so you can begin to heal.
All my stories have songs that drove me in the writing process, some of my chapters are even named after songs.
Alice's Guide to Have Sex with a Vampire was the first story I ever wrote and music really pushed me through some scenes.
