Thanksgiving Cat Edition
Today I’m going to introduce you to my sweet cats!
This how I became the
crazy cat lady!
In September 2017 Ana
came to me and asked if she could get a kitten. We already had two dogs at the
time Luna and Max, and I was a dog person… or so I thought!
I mean I liked cats
but never really wanted one. So, my answer to her was, “Ask your dad if he says
it’s okay it’s okay with me.” I said this because I was pretty sure he would
say no, guess what…he said yes and she was so happy!
So, off to the Erie County SPCA we went and we
fell in love with our Scarlett (she was named Lola). And my cat obsession began
as this little creature stole my heart completely!
Scarlett is a spicy
tortoiseshell; she does have a sweet side when she wants! I always say she is
full of tortitude! She really doesn’t meow she kind of just yells…. noooo.
February 2018 came around
and Simon wanted a cat of his own and I thought Scarlett could use a friend! I
went to Pet Supplies Plus to buy food and there was Waldo, he was stray found
in Niagara Falls and he was so lonely in a cage, so I brought him home and
named him Jinx. They said he was around a year old.
Unfortunately, we didn’t
even have him for two days and I had to rush him to the ER because something
was very wrong with him. He was diagnosed with panleukopenia, and he unfortunately
never came home. He was sweet boy and I'm so glad we were able to show him love and comfort. His loss was hard and I told Simon we would
get another cat when the time was right.

Flashforward to July
2018, The Niagara County SPCA was having the clear the shelter event all cats
were $25.00 including kittens, so we took the long drive in hopes to find an
orange kitten! We got there and they had no orange kittens, but there was a
cage with 3 black cats in it. We took one out, I can’t remember the cat’s name,
but he wanted nothing to do with us. When the volunteer put him back in the
cage one of the other black kittens placed his little paw on Simon’s hand that
was resting on the cage. Well played little kitty… well played! The lady took
Gunther out and we fell in love with this black fluff ball! We renamed him
Onyx! BEST clearance cat ever!
Onyx has always had a very special place in my heart; he is a sweet and gentle cat and he has this amazing calming effect over me and yet he’s afraid of just about everything. He doesn’t really meow, he kind of natnowes!
Scarlett and Onyx were doing great together!
And then COVID hit!
May 2020, the kids
and I were home 24/7 for two long months so a kitten was something we wanted.
An orange kitten to be exact!
At the time the kids
and I were volunteering for Ten Lives Club but that was put on hold because of
the pandemic.
I got in touch with the girls that I knew did
fostering to see if any had an orange male and I hit the jackpot! One had a
male calico (this is very rare) but he was too small to be fixed with the other
kittens, so I fostered to adopted him, His name was Nutmeg and we changed it to
Toby! Just like the last two Toby doesn’t meow, he squeaks! I give up! I guess
we will never have a normal cat!
The kids loved having
a kitten and Toby got around the clock love, introducing him to Scarlett and
Onyx went smoothly. Onyx accepted him pretty much right away, but Scarlett took
a few more days!
Life with three cats
was great! We ended moving in August to a bigger home and the cats loved all
the space and exploring a new home!
Flashforward to 2023 – Divorced and moved again to an apartment with the kids and the cats! We moved in January and I knew I wanted kittens, but we were going on a vacation in August so after that I wanted to start looking.
One day at the
beginning of October we went to the mall and wondered into Tabby Town, and I
saw this little grey puff ball and fell in love, his name was John and he
couldn’t come home right away as he needed his shots, I also wanted a girl kitten, but
they only had males.
So, after signing the
paperwork but not being able to bring Poe home for a week, I wanted to find a
female kitten. I had a dream that night that my Poe was home playing in my room
with a calico kitten. I woke up the next morning I texted my friends that
foster again and the one I that fostered our Toby had a calico little girl (a few
weeks older than Poe) going up for adoption the next day! It was meant to be so
of course, we went and got her!
She was named
Souffle, we named her Rory after my obsession with Gilmore Girls. Rory was
actual home for a few days before we brought Poe home.
For the first month
they grew up in my room, only slowly meeting the OG cats (we named Scarlett,
Onyx and Toby this because they were all pre the move )
We lovingly name our
two newest members… the Shittens!
It took some time,
but all five cats pretty much coexist and get along!
As for the OG’s , Scarlett
is 8 and believe it or not she is chilling out a bit. I would say she hates and
loves us all the same.
Onyx would have been
7 and I was his person. This past January we lost Onyx, he had an enlarged pancreas,
it was a very difficult time and to tell you the truth I’m still not over it.
Toby is 5 and still the sweetest and strangest
boy but he really has zero brain cells on most days, it maybe be an orange cat
thing! Ana 100% is his person.
As for the shittens Rory and Poe are 2 now and love each other completely!
Rory is just so sweet
and has such a kind heart and her fur feels like velvet. She claimed Simon as
her person.
Poe well, all I can
say is we love him even though he is just a little troublemaker and he really
is the dumbest cat I’ve ever met but he is cute, fluffy and sweet and very much
a lap cat! I’m also thankful that the little shit claimed me to be his person!
And we now have two
cats that meow, Rory has a very soft meow as Poe has loud meow more like a
roar, okay, so I have one cat the family meows! I’ll take it!
I love my little cat
family so much!
Happy Thanksgiving
from
Scarlett, Toby, Rory
and Poe!
In loving memory of
Jinx and Onyx!
